Su estirpe brujeril las ha dotado de poderes sobrenaturales, aunque tambi\u00e9n les ha significado el rechazo por parte de ciertos sectores de la sociedad; pero lo que realmente las ha afligido desde muy peque\u00f1as es el terrible hechizo que, por siglos, ha provocado que todos los hombres que se enamoran de las Owens mueran prematuramente. El esposo y padre de las hijas de Sally no logra librarse del macabro sortilegio y muere, mientras que Gilliam se relaciona con hombres nefastos que generan un sinf\u00edn de embrollos para las hermanas.
